La Rousse-Saint Roman
Located at the Northern tip of Monaco, the residential district of La Rousse-Saint Roman is walkable to seaside boutiques and many beachfront restaurants. For those who prefer to take life a little slower, this quiet neighborhood offers both modern high-rises and more rustic villas.
Claim to fame: Home to the world’s most expensive apartment, located in the Tour Odeon.
To the east of La Rousse is Le Larvotto, where Monaco’s most expensive street is located. It’s home to the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco’s conference center located on the seafront of the beach quartier. Ocean lovers will enjoy the gorgeous views of Larvotto Beach. A new, pedestrianized eco-district called Portier Cove is set to open in the area by 2022, featuring a public park, a port with 30 boat slips, and luxury housing including multi-tenant buildings and private waterfront villas.
Claim to fame: The National Museum, located at Villa Sauber, 17 avenue Princesse, is one of the last Belle Epoque villas in Monaco.
Synonymous to the glitz and glamour associated with Monaco, Monte-Carlo is at the very center of all the action. Royalty and celebrities have been coming here for decades, proving that this district’s shine has far from faded. The hottest events in Monaco happen in Monte-Carlo, and the key word here seems to be action, action, and more action. Here you can find the Carré d’Or/Golden Square, where some of the most luxurious real estate properties can be found.
Claim to fame: The Grand Prix takes place at the Circuit de Monaco in Monte-Carlo for two weekends every May.
Farther south, and very close to the foot of the Alps is Les Moneghetti. Private villas from the early 20th century give this area a distinctive look. Princess Antoinette Park, located amid the villas, boasts 100-year olive trees, a miniature golf course, and many kid-friendly attractions. Bordered on the east by France, Les Moneghetti also has a local French market.
Claim to fame: The Gare de Monaco-Monte-Carlo, Monaco’s only railway station, can be found here.
Located above the port, La Condamine is where we see the Monaco of old in its finest state. In this district, traditional architecture is married with the most luxurious of modern interiors, and most of the buildings found in this district contain new, state-of-the-art apartments.
Claim to fame: Monégasques enjoy shopping under the orange trees at the various local farmers’ markets along Rue Grimaldi, the central street in the Condamine quarter.
Nicknamed Le Rocher after the rock it is perched on, Monaco-Ville is the principality’s oldest and most historic district. It has retained the charm of its past and is home to Monaco’s political and judicial institutions. The properties on sale are rare and mainly found in the charming and aged streets of Emile de Loth. If you’re looking for authenticity and character, the houses of Monaco-Ville will appeal to you. Neighborhood attractions include St. Martin Gardens and the Oceanographic Museum.
Claim to fame: Place du Palais is the official residence of the Sovereign Prince of Monaco.
Within this district is a breathtaking botanical garden that is home to the world’s largest collection of cactus and succulents. You’ll find a heady confluence of nature, art, and history within the gardens. If you are looking for a quiet residential area in the French Mediterranean, look into properties for sale in Jardin Exotique, where many apartments look out to a stunning view of Monaco itself and the sparkling sea.
Claim to fame: The Jardin Exotique d’Eze, or The Exotic Garden as described above. Villa Ispahan, which was erected in 1910 by an Iranian prince, is an architectural replica of the Isfahan mosque and recognized for its vividly colorful patterns and inscriptions.
In the southernmost ward, the charming district of Fontvielle was built on reclaimed land. In contrast to most of Monaco, Fontvielle’s ultra-modern buildings make it feel fresher and more youthful. Real estate options include luxury waterfront penthouses, studio apartments, as well as everything in between. Properties for sale in this area don’t stay too long in the market.
Claim to fame: Home to the Stade Louis II or Louis II Stadium, which is the home ground of AS Monaco FC, the football club that’s one of the most successful in the French national league.
